Earning an Associates Degree in nursing in 1991 from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, she began her career. Then, in 1995, Karla earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from the University of South Alabama in Mobile. To provide her patients with the best care, she holds certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. 

Specializing in cardiac nursing and teaching, she maintains a professional membership with the Mississippi Nurses Association, whose mission is to promote registered professional nursing practice through advocacy, education, research, and partnership.

Karla takes pride in helping new nurses learn how to be the best for their patients, yet takes the most pride in that her son is now in nursing school, working hard to achieve a degree in one of the noblest professions.

A registered nurse (RN) is a nurse who has graduated from a nursing program and met the requirements outlined by a country, state, province or similar licensing body to obtain a nursing license. RNs fulfill a variety of job duties. In addition to their primary role in treating and caring for patients, their responsibilities also include educating patients and the public about a variety of medical conditions, as well as providing emotional support and advice to the families of their patients. Other RN job functions include leadership, research, performing diagnostic tests and analyzing results, operating medical equipment, administering medications, recording patients' symptoms and medical histories, and assisting with patient rehabilitation and follow-up.
